The weather is finally starting to break and it is time to get off your rump and start moving. Moving faster and more often is one of the keys to being healthy and having a great body. Our bodies are designed to move in all sorts of glorious and fun ways that have pretty much nothing to do with sitting in front of a computer or television set.
One of the best training tips I have ever heard is to find an activity or exercise you love to do. If you are having fun the exercise is not going to feel like work and you are far more likely to stick with it. You should be incorporating weight training into your schedule at least 2-3 times per week. That being said you need to have a way to burn calories and improve endurance as well. The activities listed below not only burn calories but they also help strengthen a major muscle group or two.
- Rock climbing (indoors or outdoors)
- Swimming
- Dancing
- Tennis
- Martial Arts
- Baseball or Softball
- Active video games!
- Hiking
- Cycling
- Gardening
These exercises can help you slim down and feel more energetic and they do not feel like work. If none of these work for you then try a good old fashioned walk. Walking is low impact, cheap and can be done just about anywhere. If you are new to fitness it’s probably one of the best places to start. Walking helps people build a base level of fitness so that they can move on to more challenging exercises.
So You Want to Look Good Au Natural
Um… that means naked. Burning fat and feeling young and healthy are all well and good, but if you want to look good with and without clothes then you are going to need something more. That something is muscle tone. We’re not talking about super big muscles here, unless that’s the look you want. What we’re talking about is a strong, lean, toned body that makes you look fit, active and in control.
By building muscle tone you can make a shift in your body composition and make your body look better without dropping a single pound. This is because the scale might not show a drop in weight, but muscle just looks better than fat. This is especially true when you are without clothes, or in a bathing suit.
10 Simple Ways to Do It
There are ten simple weight training exercises you can do to help you look your best. The ten exercises listed below will work your entire body and help you get toned by summer. These should be done two to three times per week with a day off in between. You should always warm up for five to ten minutes before doing these exercises to make them more effective and prevent injuries. Warm muscles will comply better than cold ones.
- Bicep curls
- Triceps extensions or pushdowns
- Reverse curls to work your forearms
- Dead lift and Crunches for your abs
- Bent over rows for your back
- Dumbbell front raises for your shoulders
- Good mornings for your hamstrings
- Squats for your butt and front of the thighs
- Bench press for your chest
- Calf raises for your calves
When spring arrives that means that summer is just around the corner. To look your best and have a great body you need to find a way to burn excess calories and do regular strength training to keep your body toned and tight. So, get up and get moving and you will have a great body before you can say “beach party”.
